Qur'aan Contemplation

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. [38:29]
This is a series encouraging contemplation on the ayaat of the Qur'aan.  We will be posting a series of verses.  Read the verses in Arabic a few times.  If you do not understand Arabic, follow up by reading the meaning.  Reflect on the verses and think about what you understand from them.  Is there something you can relate to in your life?  Can you derive any lessons from them?  Do they make you realize or appreciate anything?  You don't have to make any profound observations... just read and reflect and respond to the Qur'aan.
Post your comments below the article.  This is intended to be an interactive series and comments will be moderated by Sheikh Younus Kathrada.

Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allaah does not like the exultant. But seek, through that which Allaah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allaah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allaah does not like corrupters." He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allaah had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked. So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qarun. Indeed, he is one of great fortune." But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allaah is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient." And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allaah , nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves. And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allaah extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allaah had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!" [28:76-82]
Tip of the day:
When you read about the people or nations of the past, think about present nations and if these qualities are in them also.

O you who have believed, indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allaah is Forgiving and Merciful. [64:14]
Tip of the day:
When believers are addressed, for example, ya ayyuhallazeena amanu, pay attention… This is Allaah asking for your attention because He is going to inform you of something extremely important.

Then we caused to inherit the Book those We have chosen of Our servants; and among them is he who wrongs himself, and among them is he who is moderate, and among them is he who is foremost in good deeds by permission of Allaah . That [inheritance] is what is the great bounty. [35:32]
Tip of the day:
When different types of people or different traits are mentioned, try and see how this applies to you, be honest, evaluate yourself, reform yourself

Contemplation [3:15-17]

Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allaah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allaah . And Allaah is Seeing of [His] servants - Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire," The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allaah ], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn. [3:15-17]
Ibn ‘Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “Contemplating over good deeds causes one to perform them and regretting evil leads to one abandoning it. When the slave’s main concern is to please Allaah, He will make his silence be spent in contemplation and his speech consist of praise and gratitude to Allaah.”
Tip of the day:
When the verse is about Allaah loves…, Allaah helps…, etc., look at the characteristics that are mentioned and try to build them in yourself.  Similarly when negative traits are mentioned, try and reform yourself.

Contemplation [3:190-191]

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. Who remember Allaah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. [3:190-191]
‘Ataa’, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: “‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr and I once went to visit ‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, and when we arrived she spoke to us from behind a veil saying: ‘O ‘Ubayd! What stops from visiting me?’ He, may Allaah be pleased with him, replied: ‘The narration in which the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: “Visit at intervals, people would therefore like and miss you more.” Then he asked her: ‘Tell us the most amazing thing that you experienced with the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam; she then wept and said: ‘All his affairs were amazing, but one night he came to me (i.e., it was her turn to spend the night with) and said to me: “Do not interrupt me, for tonight I wish to worship my Lord.” Then, he performed ablution, stood up in prayer, and cried until his beard was soaked; then, he went down into prostration and continued to cry until he soaked the floor, then, he concluded his prayer and laid down on his side until Bilaal, may Allaah be pleased with him, came to inform him that it was time for the Fajr prayer, and when Bilaal, may Allaah be pleased with him, saw his condition, he inquired: ‘O messenger of Allaah! Why do you cry so much when Allaah has forgiven all your past and future sins?’ He sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam replied: “Some verses were revealed to me last night; woe to the one who recites them and does not contemplate over them!” Then he sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam recited:
Tip of the day:
When reading verses about Allaah’s creation, nature, insects, think about the perfection of what Allaah creates and the impossibility for man to do anything flawless
