Qur'aan Contemplation

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. [38:29]
This is a series encouraging contemplation on the ayaat of the Qur'aan.  We will be posting a series of verses.  Read the verses in Arabic a few times.  If you do not understand Arabic, follow up by reading the meaning.  Reflect on the verses and think about what you understand from them.  Is there something you can relate to in your life?  Can you derive any lessons from them?  Do they make you realize or appreciate anything?  You don't have to make any profound observations... just read and reflect and respond to the Qur'aan.
Post your comments below the article.  This is intended to be an interactive series and comments will be moderated by Sheikh Younus Kathrada.

Contemplation [74:31]

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. [74:31]
Tip of the day:
When Allaah asks rhetorical questions, answer. When you read about Paradise, pause and ask Allaah for Paradise. When you read about Hell, pause and seek refuge with Allaah from Hell.

Contemplation [2:212]

Beautified for those who disbelieve is the life of this world, and they ridicule those who believe. But those who fear Allaah are above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allaah gives provision to whom He wills without account. [2:212]
Tip of the day:
Don’t try and interpret or understand according to your own whims and desires, rather try and make your understanding like that of the sahabah

Contemplation [3:91]

Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers. [3:91]
Tip of the day:
The best speech is the Speech of Allaah; therefore, be attentive of the grammar too (especially for Arabic speakers)

Contemplation [41:33]

And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allaah and does righteousness and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims." [41:33]
Tip of the day:
When you read verses about the virtue of seeking knowledge, being patient, etc., ask for these in your duas and work towards them.

Contemplation [19:90-91]

The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son. [19:90-91]
Tip of the day:
When Allaah speaks of kufr and its consequences and effects on "nature", think of the severity of it (i.e. kufr).
