Contemplation [14:42-43]

E-mail Print PDF
And never think that Allaah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]. Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void. [14:42-43]
Tip of the day:
If Allaah speaks of the punishment of certain crimes (i.e. stealing, adultery, etc...) think of why it is so severe

As salam aleikom wa rahmatullah wa barakahtuh,

"If Allaah speaks of the punishment of certain crimes (i.e. stealing, adultery, etc...) think of why it is so severe"

my question would be, does Allah have these punishments in place so that these criminals will in repent before its too late? also a severe punishment in this life is also a way to have less punishment in the next life? also it could be a reminder for everyone to fear Allah and the Day of Judgment.

5) Eyes stare in horror. Have we seen people with that sort of look? When would a person have their expression? For example, when their worst fears have come true. Or when they are so shocked because what they are seeing is completely unexpected and filled with horror. Or it is like the deer and the headlight situation. They are looking ahead, they can see this coming at them, it is inevitable, but they cannot move to save themselves, they can do nothing to avert it. What makes it worse is the deer is an innocent animal who wandered on the highway, these people's horror is increased because they know they themselves are responsible for where they landed!

6) This last ayah has lots of new words for me, so I am having trouble understand it except for the translation. But what comes through is the completely helpless state of these people.

4) He delays them... those words alone are so powerful! Here we are so hasty, wondering when justice will be done. But for those who are wondering why Allaah does not give these people their due, we see... HE IS DELAYING THEM! What does that mean?
i) He is making them do more wrong so they can have a worse punishment
ii) He is giving them the opportunity to repent and reform themselves
iii) He is letting them feel secure in their wrongdoing so that as they get more confidence they do more wrong, and their confidence will be sapped in the hereafter as we see in the following verse
iv) He is making them collect more and more evidence against themselves
v) If they were recompensed in the world, it would be short lived, perhaps to the extent of their lives... this is FOREVER!

These words alone can be pondered over for a while and so much more meaning is implied in it.

1) These ayaat are so dramatic in their description and create a feeling of terror as one tries to visualize them.

2) Sometimes we feel despondent that there are people who do wrong, and not only do they get away with it, but somehow they seem to have more opportunity to do damage. Being humans and weak as we are, we are hasty to see them being recompensed, hasty to see them meet their just end.

These ayaat remind us that there is a hereafter - any accounts left unsettled will be settled there, any injustice left unpunished will be punished in full.

3) Note, this ayaat is not referring to kaafireen, it is referring to Thaalimeen - wrongdoers, oppressors.

Allaah Akbar! For me, this is a great consolation as I look around and see all the injustices carried out today against the Musims (and in particular in the name of fighting terrorism whereas in actual fact it is a battle against Islaam). Allaah is well aware of it all and nothing goes unnoticed. He, in His infinite Wisdom knows wht He does not "intervene" when we think He should. Whatever is happening is happening for a reason and the fact that we are taking a beating has wisdom behind it (even if we do not see it). But rest assured, those criminals will pay for their crimes.
