Busy with iftar

E-mail Print PDF
I have a big family and we invite people for Iftar everyday. I spend so many hours in the kitchen that I have no time for reading Qur'aan. What can I do?

No doubt, providing food for fasting people is a good deed. However, there must be moderation in all our affairs. If this leads to you being unable to spend much time in reciting Quraan and engaging in other acts of 'ibaadah then you need to revisit this issue. Either get help in preparing or cut down the invitations. You should discuss this matter with your family so you can make a collective decision. My advice to husbands is not to be selfish and not to deprive the womenfolk from benefitting during this blessed month. Again, feeding others is a great deed and with the correct intention will bring great rewards, however, there must be a balance. In any event, while preparing you can still do thikr (remember allaah abundantly), revise what you have memorized of Quraan, listen to Quraan and Islaamic lectures and so forth.

And Allaah knows best.
