Menses and ibaadaat

E-mail Print PDF
I feel very depressed when I get my menses because I cannot pray salaah and read Qur'aan. What can I do so that I do not lose out during those days?

There is no need to feel depressed as this is merely something that Allaah has written for the daughters of Aadam. Because you cannot pray, fast and read Quraan (according to the opinion of the majority of scholars) it does not mean you cannot do other good deeds. You may some of the following: supplicate (make du'aa), do thikr (remember Allaah abundantly), help others, prepare food for the fasting, listen to good lectures, listen to Quraan, read Islaamic books, maintain family ties, assist in your local masjid by offering to look after kids of sisters who are praying (do it in a room separate from the prayer hall), and so forth. Therefore, as you can see, there are many things you can still do even though you are not praying and fasting. In addition, remember to abstain from sin. So don't say that since you can't pray and fast, you can kill time watching soap operas and other inappropriate shows.
